Coffee and Crumpets

Young Winners

It’s been a hairy couple of days. I have been trying to transfer my web hosting company and as many of you may already know, that is never an easy affair. The long hours of sitting on your butt trying to figure out if all of your files made it over are not my idea of fun. Thankfully, my new hosting company rocks. They have been great and transferred over all my stuff and showed me how to do the various things that need to be done to part ways with the other hosting company. I have learned a lot the last few days and feel like some computer wiz now! The downside is that during the transfer, I think I lost a couple of valued comments and I do apologise to my friends who may not see their comments posted. Please leave me another one!

All this transferring hullabaloo made it impossible for me to update my site but it did give me a chance to visit blog buddies and discover some new ones too. It’s always nice to find new blogs that you just “click” with.

I wanted to share with y’all, something fun that my daughter, Sahare and her youth group were involved in on Monday. Their youth group leader organised a dessert competition for them and even though there weren’t many entrants (many had left for vacation already), the ones who entered did a fantastic job. It’s wonderful to see that our young ladies enjoy baking and cooking and took the time to put their creativity to use.  It was great to see all their hardwork on display and even more fun to taste each one. Sahare made English Pancakes using my recipe and had three different fillings; Nutella, fresh fruit and the traditional English with sugar and lemon. She won First Place for Best Tasting and 2nd Place for Most Unique. Great job Sahare, you make your mama proud!

We also had a beautifully decorated marble cake from Hera and Zikra with some amazing fondant work and gum paste flowers. This cake won the Blue Ribbon for Best Looking.

There were some intricate pastries from Algeria that Rana made. These were delicious, drizzled with honey and crispy and oh so delicate. Rana won First Place for Most Unique and Runner Up for Best Tasting.

All in all it was great fun and all these young ladies were winners for their sense of commitment and community. You girls rock!

Our youth group leader also made a beautiful cake to cheer on the girls.

Great job from our youth I think. We are now thinking about doing a “Chopped” competition for them since they excelled in this one.

I hope you all have a great weekend and thanks for reading.

It is my birthday today, I am 29 years old (again ;))

I am waiting to see what exciting things my children have planned for me today. A day of pampering…I hope.

The desserts look like something you see on a Food Network show!! All the teens should feel proud. Wish I could have been there to taste-test.

Happy Birthday a day late. I got a new laptop and for some reason I can’t post comments on any of my favorite blogs from it. I have to log on to my old desktop to do so. I will have to figure that out somehow but I am not very techy!

Thank you Caterina! I wonder what’s up with your computer…that’s bit strange though. Do you have a different browser on your laptop vs your desktop? Or maybe your security is set too high. I hope you get it working. Nice to hear from you.

What a fantastic display of young talent in this post. Every one is a winner in my book. I’m gobsmacked by how good it all looks.

I agree! It was so hard to pick winners but each had a talent so that’s what we voted towards. Let me tell you, they were definitely tasty!

Happy Birthday Nazneen, I hope you have a fabulous day. Congratulations too to Sahare, great to see that a good British dish won the prize and skill too, of course. I can’t imagine moving my domain. I think it would be a step too far for me. GG

Thank you GG. I had a great day at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science and then dinner at Woodys Wood fired pizza. Followed by some Oregon blackberry frozen custard. There is nothing like a good old British pudding. I don’t care how much fun people make of British cuisine, to me it’s still one of the best.
