Happy New Year!! Chances are that no one is probably reading this because y'all are either sleeping in late after partying all night or nursing a hangover, or you could very well be reading this because you are like us and fall asleep before 10pm! It's quite sad really. My husband and I haven't been out on New Year's Eve for years! And we're not even the least bit concerned, but it bothers me a little bit because I'm really not that old! So, here's hoping all of you that went out, had a great time and brought in 2014 in style and with some great food! Now that it is a New Year, how many made some resolutions? I used to many moons ago, but the fact I couldn't stick to them led to so much disappointment that I stopped making them. I don't make a list or anything, just in my head I decide to work on a couple of things. Like this year, one of my must dos is getting more organised where this blog is concerned! As far as the whole eating better and exercising resolution, yeah right, like we're ever going to get that one going! I already eat organic, non GMO, now gluten free, but maybe I could eat less of it!  How about you guys? Do you make resolutions? Do you stick to them? Or ... continue reading...

My 13 Favourite Posts for 2013

My 13 Favourite Posts for 2013

Thank you everyone for all your wonderful comments and well wishes! I didn't mean to draw so much attention to my ailment because honestly, it's a bit boring to keep hearing about it, but my husband's experience with the rotisserie chicken and the entire contents of my knife block was so funny, I had to share it :) . I hope everyone had a fantastic Christmas with plenty of great food and great company. I hope Santa was kind to you all too and everyone was able to get what they wanted :) . I got a wonderful pressie myself from my guests on Christmas Day. One of the family members is visiting from the UK so he brought over a bunch of my favourite childhood British chocolate. I'm seriously in heaven and only a little bit ashamed to say that I have hidden it from my children. So, since we're winding down the year and looking forward to bringing in the new year next week, I thought I'd take the opportunity to share my 13 favourite posts for 2013. They are in no particular order, but these are the ones I really enjoyed making, posting and eating! White Chicken Chilli with White Chocolate and Lime

White Chicken Chilli with White Chocolate and Lime

Last Friday, I had huge baking plans for the weekend. I was going to make panettone, bake cookies, replenish my blog back up with new recipes and photos and get a head start with the cooking and photography for this chilli for the Improv Cooking Challenge this month. I had done the shopping, I was pumped and totally organised. Saturday morning rolls around and I cannot move. I cannot walk two steps to my bathroom let alone climb down a flight of stairs. UGH! I was so mad. This is the reality of my Rheumatoid Arthritis; stuff like this happens and I have no control. Goes to show that my body has its own mind and what I plan doesn't always pan out. There is no point in getting frustrated, mad or anything else. I just take it as a day or two days where I do nothing but ice my knee, take pain medicine and watch TV. So, last Saturday, my youngest daughter took care of me since my husband was working. She made me breakfast, got me lunch, snacks and tea. All the while keeping me company as we watched bad Christmas TV. When my husband came home he ordered pizza for dinner.  Sunday rolled around and I still can't move. My husband and I had to miss our weekly date at our favourite ... continue reading...

Black Forest Roulade and Lavazza Coffee

Black Forest Roulade and Lavazza Coffee

First of all, today's post happens to be my 201st! Wow, I have actually stuck with something I started (I have a slight problem with commitment ;) ) Not to say, that I haven't thought about abandoning it all many times, but I really enjoy doing this now so I've stuck to it, I wish I could say the same about me learning German. That is not going well at all. Secondly, this is a post that you don't see very often here on my site; a sponsored post. I am incredibly picky about the products I use, advertise and recommend, but when Lavazza contacted me I couldn't refuse. You see, after I graduated from the instant coffee of my youth and began to taste the nuances of different and really good coffee, my first experience was with Lavazza. I loved, and still love, cappuccinos and I would patronise every cafe in London trying to find the perfect one. When I moved to the US, the hunt continued. Every time I had a good one, I noticed it was Lavazza. After that, any time I saw the Lavazza coffee sign, I knew I was in for a great cup of coffee. So, it was a no brainer to agree to this post and it's truly a nostalgia post for me. Lavazza has come out with a new line of coffees for your ... continue reading...

Roasted Butternut Squash and Sweet Potato Salad

Roasted Butternut Squash and Sweet Potato Salad

I don't know about you guys but, I'm feeling heavy, full, over comforted. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but it can get to be too much. Our Arctic blast here in Colorado, left the State with below freezing, negative digit temperatures. Oh, it was cold, very cold. We were waking up to -11℉ (-24℃) and it was only warming up to like 3℉. It was pretty insane. I know there are colder places on this Earth but when you're used to the sun shining and pretty nice temperatures even during winter, it's a bit of a shock! Of course, salad was not on the menu. Our bodies were rebelling against everything cold and so, I was making a lot of carb laden, warming foods. Most of the time it was spicy Indian curries so the spices would warm us up or stew and chilli like dinners. Finally, our temperature is back into the double digits and we're enjoying a balmy 34℉ (1℃) these days. After 10 days of over whelming, heavy foods, I made a refreshingly light dinner the other night. It still had some carbs to fuel us and spices to keep us warm, but it was a nice, light variation. I don't know if it was the change of pace or the fact that it really was good, but I really enjoyed every bite of my ... continue reading...
