I hope everyone had a fabulous weekend. I had an absolutely, wonderful time with my friend. We spent hours laughing, talking and eating. It was so good to see her friendly face after almost a year. But like all good things, it came to an end. I do believe that's it for this summer. I don't think anyone else has plans to visit me, except maybe my father. Next month marks the start of the Islamic holy month of fasting and since it's quite a hectic month, everyone prefers to spend Ramadan at home. I am looking forward to fasting. It's a nice break from the constant eating that I do and a purifying time for the stomach and soul. I have mentioned many a time, how much I detest frying. I love to eat fried food so it's probably a good thing I do! However, come Ramadan, I always seem to be frying. Ramadan has the reputation of having some of the most fun foods to eat. I don't want to dwell too much on all the foods right now, but suffice to say, I hope to share some of these tantalisingly, tasty, treats with you. Another bit of exciting news, well for me at least, ... continue reading...

Rice, Beans and a Storm or Two
Denver has been in a deluge for the last week. We have been pounded by some severe thunderstorms, hail, strong winds, and lots and lots of magnificent lightning. Last night was an amazing storm. I have never seen such bright lightning, it was blinding. The thunder was the kind that makes you jump out of your skin because even though you know its happening, the sheer intensity of the noise makes everything inside and around you vibrate. It was quite scary actually, but exhilarating at the same time. Mother Nature has such force and we are insignificant beings in its path. I, however, just love thunderstorms. I love the noise and the lightning, the wind, the force with which the rain pounds everything around us. This is what I miss about Texas the most, all the tropical storms. We were up in Rocky Mountain National Park ... continue reading...
Greenery
Green Lantern I want to take a moment from my food posting to get up on my milk crate and talk about "green." Green is a great colour, my son's favourite colour. It is the colour of grass and trees, healthy foods, good Jedis, superheroes and gamma irradiated scientists to name just a few. What does it mean to be "green"? It does take some work to make your home and life completely green but it can be done. Now, I try hard to reduce my carbon footprint as much as I can but I am not completely there. However, we can start slow by ... continue reading...
Blueberry Cobbler
In an effort to reduce my waistline and be able to fit comfortably in my jeans again, I have stopped baking. While my family was here last month, I think I over indulged. We were having huge breakfasts, and granted we were hiking and walking it all off but then we'd turn around and have a huge picnic too! So, really, there's no thinking, I KNOW I overdid it.However, I don't see why all of you should suffer on account of my inability to watch what I eat! I haven't posted a nice pudding in weeks and since summer is here, there is a plethora of summer berries to utilise. The children want me to make pie, my husband wants a crumble or pie or cobbler...basically he'll take anything. He's not happy with my decision to not bake. It's not just the waistline excuse though; it's so hot, even here in Denver. But I know this can only go on for a bit, I will have a mutiny on my hands very soon. The stores are full to the gills with berries. They are offering really great sales and this year, the berries seem to be quite sweet too. I haven't gone berry picking yet like I was planning to but Trace is off tomorrow, I may be able to bribe him with a pie or crumble. The recipe I have picked ... continue reading...
