Before I tell you about my first NFL football experience, I have a little update on my “Sad Sate of Affairs” post. On Saturday, I received a beautiful vase of flowers from my wonderful aunt in Michigan! My sad, pathetic post really affected her I think and she decided to lighten my spirits by sending me some flowers. It was really sweet of her and my uncle (and cousin, though I'm quite sure he didn't have a clue until now, thanks Bilal!) They made my day and they cheer me up everytime I pass by my hall table. I have to smile because the thought behind them is so sweet. Thank you sooo much Afroze Mami, you don't know how much I appreciate your thoughtfulness and kindness. Saturday happened to end up a wonderful day because as you now know, I received a beautiful vase full of flowers, my husband made dinner so I could relax my knees and I was given two tickets to a Broncos game for Sunday, and boy, did I have a blast! After researching the various parking options, hubby and I decided the best course of action would be to just take the Broncos Ride. This ride is a public transport bus that picked us up at our local park and ride and dropped us off at Invesco Field, all for a ... continue reading...
A Rant, A Rave And A Game
I hate ignorant people. I know I should know better than to read the comments on a news article but I couldn't help it and now my blood is boiling. It seems the only people who leave comments on news articles are sorry, pathetic, ignorant morons who know nothing about anything. I happened to be reading the sad story about that Muslim lady who was gunned down in New Jersey by what they thought was a racial attack but it turned out to be her creep of a husband who had her killed. Such a sad story, domestic violence always is and religion plays no part in it. Many non Muslim women are harmed or killed every year. Of course, just because this lady was a Muslim, everyone is blaming Islam, as usual. People have no idea about Islam but love to spew irrelevant, incorrect nonsense. Unfortunately, a lot of what is portrayed as Islamic practices or traditions are in fact, cultural. Islam is not a culture, it is our faith and religion. Somewhere down the line, religion and culture became entwined. Islam actually forbids cultural practices especially if it goes against Islamic principles. People in the west love the whole "honour killing" thing. They just loved to focus on that and ... continue reading...
A Sad State Of Affairs
There goes my cleaning frenzy momentum, actually that went yesterday, but it's totally shelved for the next couple of day for sure. So, I did manage to tackle my mountain of laundry and unearthed my living room and family room from what looked like centuries of dust. My Dyson was taken out of retirement and put to work, I am surprised it didn't over heat! All in all it was a productive day and my ground floor looked spotless. Next day was the upstairs. Well, the intentions were great but they didn't materialise to much. I was just knackered out from the day before! Today is no better. I just returned from my rheumatology appointment and was given two shots in my knees. Oh the pain! I hate injections and needles. So now I am laid up for a couple of days because my knees are quite sore. What a pity, the bathroom will have to wait. You maybe seeing a lack of munchies posted and that's because I haven't felt like cooking and have been making my family finish leftovers and eat pasta (it's quick.) My heart isn't in cooking lately and seems like such a chore. Once cooking becomes a chore it's not fun any more. I do have some recipes to post but I haven't felt like writing them up ... continue reading...
Freedom
Today is a glorious day, the sun is shining, the sky is the bluest blue and it is not unbearably hot. I am actually sitting here draped in a blanket because it's cool in the house. However, these aren't the reasons for why this is such a glorious day; what makes this day so wonderful is that ALL my children are at school for the first time! All of them, from my first grader to my senior. I know that the appearance of the first tooth is an event and the first step is a great accomplishment but honestly, I think the day that the parents look forward to the most is when you can send your youngest off to school and have the whole (almost) to your self in peace! I was a little emotional since this is the first day of a very long school life for him, but that lasted all of twenty seconds and the rest of the time it was feelings of pure exuberance! Freedom. What will I be doing with all this freedom? I have plans. I think the Botanic Gardens are calling my name and the art museum. Random lunch dates with my husband are most definitely warranted. I'll take in some window shopping just so I can enjoy it in peace! A hike or walk around the trails and park to get in some exercise will ... continue reading...
Fried Lamb and Potatoes~Bhuna Gosht-Aloo
I wrote about my lamb experience a couple of posts back and despite my lack of enthusiasm for the stuff, I still have lamb in the freezer that needs to be cooked. I may not like it, but my husband and the children enjoy it so I made some for them the other day. The way my mother made it most often was this fried or bhuna, as we say in Urdu, version. I think my dad enjoyed this and that's why it was made so often! It is very good...if you like lamb. I remember really enjoying it as a child when I obviously had working taste buds and a muted sense of smell. I don't think she used onions but I add one so that there is some masala that can be mopped up with some bread or rice. Potatoes are a natural accompaniment to meat, even in Indian cooking. I think the ubiquitous meat and potatoes holds no boundaries and travels from cuisine to cuisine in some delicious disguise. Like with most red meat, it is much easier to get the flesh tender if you use a pressure cooker. You can braise it for a couple of hours if you wish, but if you own a pressure cooker, use it! At my high altitude, tenderising meat is a challenge and it literally takes over two hours to get meat fork tender. The ... continue reading...
